Why havent you included the Western Digital 320GB RE3? That drive was released about 2 weeks ago and uses 320gb platters, it is faster than the 320GB Samsung f1 and wd 3200aaks, its in shops already.

Maybe you could do a review called "Fast drives" and benchmark all current fast drives like the 320gb f1, 640gb f1, 1tb f1, 320gb wd, 640gb wd, 1tb wd, 320gb 7200.11, 1tb 7200.11, 74gb/150gb/300gb velociraptors.

This review would then show what the best drives are to get if you want speed but arent bothered about the capacity as the 74gb velociraptor is a short-stroked 150gb velociraptor so will be the same speed, possibly faster than the 300gb version.

also why no real world tests like extracting a 4.4gb .iso from rars, 700mb .avi from rars, photoshop loading files, encoding xvid etc?

I couldn't find for sale and Western Digital didn't have one for sending me.

This is a good idea. I will leave it for after I finished all round-ups I plan on doing. FYI, the next round-up will be with 500 GB drives, then with 750 GB and so on.

We always try to use a methodology that everybody else can reproduce at their own lab/home/office. If we use a methodology that isn't reproductible, everybody would have to trust us, and believe, some people don't, opening a huge window for criticism. This way, we decided to use ready-available programs that anyone can run to compare the performance we achieved with their own HDD. We also included all the screenshots for the same reason.
