Help !!!!! I have just built a new system and intended to use a RAID 5 array with three SATA 250GB hard drives. After a lot of fiddling about (I should have read Gabriel Torres' article first!) I managed to get the Initial set up sorted and Operating system (Widows XP Professional) working.
Using the provided Intel Matrix utility I then set about creating the volume, however somewhere along the line I must have missed something because what I have ended up with is a 250GB RAID 0 volume and not RAID 5.
Without having to go through a complete reintsall is there any sofware available that will allow me to correct the volume - the provided software says I can do nothing without adding another disk and as I am unsure what this will then allow me to do I didn't want to fumble any further.
Motherboard is a Foxconn 975X7AB with 2 GB memory, Intel Duo 2 Core 2.4, 3 x WD 250 GB 300, Saphire Raedeon X1950 Pro 512mb.

Hi,
RAID is really bad because you need to start everything over from scratch and losing all your data if you want to change its setup. I don't know any software that could do that. However, I didn't look for one (dah ), so I'd recommend you looking around on the web. If you find anything that solves your issue, please post here so I can learn from your experience. Thanks!
Cheers,
Gabriel.

Gabriel, thanks for the initial response.
Assuming that nothing else can be done, can I ghost the contents of the volume onto another drive and copy it back once I've set up the RAID 5 in the Bios and using the Ctrl I correctly, or do I need to go through the F6 routine and thus need a clean install ?
If the latter, do I need to to do anything other than go through the process as if I were installing everything for the first time and everything was new and out of the box ?

Graham

Hi,
I've never tried, so I can't answer that one... Try it out and let us know.
Cheers,
Gabriel.

Gabriel, good afternoon.
I chickened out in the end and did a full reinstall following your earlier article.
Raid 5 now working just fine.
In doing this exercise I have noticed one problem I need to resolve - my Pioneer DVR111D won't burn CD's or DVD's, playback or loading anything is fine, but using widows explorer to drag and drop I get an error message saying no burner is connected.
I also note that in device manager the drive is shown as being a SCSI device although whether this has any relevence I don't know..
Do you have any advice.
Regards,
Graham

Hi,
As for the burner problem, I got no clue.
As for the drives being recognized as SCSI devices, this is the normal behaviour, don't worry! :-)
Cheers,
Gabriel.
