Hello, I getting ready build me a new system and I got pretty much everything picked out but I would like to make sure it's all compatible. So can someone please confirm this?

Motherboard- EVGA 132-CK-NF79-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI DDR3 ATX Intel Motherboard

Here are the specs

http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=132-CK-NF79-A1&family=Motherboard%20Family

RAM - OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) kit

Here is the specs

http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_pc3_12800_reaper_hpc

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 Yorkfield 2.66GHz

Here is the specs

http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLAWR

If none of these don't work can you please explain why they don't?

I read an excellent article written by Gaberiel Torres on this site about upgrading your CPU, It seems to say the only things you need to make sure is your FSB and Socket type(If I understood it right). Is that really all there is to it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I think you won't have any trouble with this system.

I personally think that quad-core is overkill.

It seems to say the only things you need to make sure is your FSB and Socket type(If I understood it right). Is that really all there is to it?

For Intel CPUs the motherboard PCG must be equal or greater than the CPU's PCG. I need to update this tutorial to add this information.

Cheers,
Gabriel.

Thanks Gabriel,

If you don't mind can you please explain your opinion on why the processor is overkill? Also can you recommend one that would be better.

Also I know this is noobish but what is PCG?

Thanks.

Hi there,

Unless you really have programs capable of recognizing more than 2 CPUs (e.g. rendering software) you would do a better buy if you buy a simple Core 2 Duo.

Please read this thread, I explained about PCG there:

Thank you for replying, Yeah I found out that EVGA actually sends refurbished boards when RMA according to a newegg reveiw which I thought was kind of cheap.

I went with a XFX board instead, the information you provided was very helpful.
