Hi there,
You see, Pentium 4 and Pentium M ("Centrino") use a different internal architecture. Pentium 4 architecture is called Netburst and you can check it out reading our tutorial Inside Pentium 4 Architecture: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/235
We are still planning to write a similar tutorial for Pentium M/Centrino. In summary, Pentium M isn't based in this architecture, and that's why it has a lower power consumption and a higher performance.
Future Intel CPUs (codenamed Conroe) will use the same architecture of Pentium M. Read this for more on that:
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/185/2
This article also explains the main differences between Pentium 4 and Pentium M architecture.
BTW: Centrino is not the name of the CPU. Centrino is the name of the platform, i.e. when you have a Pentium M CPU + a i855 or i915 chipset + Intel/Pro Wireless LAN adapter. Read this for more: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/238
Cheers,
Gabriel.
