The SND_Intel_HDA driver does not work on this Nvidia MPC61(MPC51) series chip 6100-405 with OpenSuSE 10.2 Kernel 2.6.18-3 AM_64 apparently the Realtek 6XX series codec is not supported by the driver.

Since I use OpenSuSE for just about everything including my primary development machine I would like to use it.

Front panel audio jacks are not supported by the connectors on sound cards (That I know of). I cannot really use 10.3's Alpha 5 2.6.22RC4 Kernel and if I start custom compiling things I am throwing Yast's power and the stability of SuSE away. Is their a minimum change strategy to get a updated ALSA or a sound card that is maximally supported and has the front panel connector block or just the best Linux sound card for PCI maybe with wi-fi and firewire?

By the way everything else works great including AM2-5600+ Dual core, corsair 2xDD2-6400 2 Gig $89, Aria case (on hand), WD500G-7600rpm Sata2 3gig($109), Lighton x16 Lightscribe multiwriter ( on hand) and EVGA 7600GS PCIE. I wish the board had the Realtek 863 Codec populated and the Firewire as one can see the spots for them but the CPU and board was only $179 at Fry's. Other than the Audio it runs SuSE 10.2 great.

And yes it was purple just as reviewed. No sound on 2.6.18-3 AM_64 and I think getting both for $180 qualifies the suggestion of not spending more than the $100 for the AM2 processor.

Same hardware, same problem, long websearch, lotsa flailing around in Yast, no joy.

Any good news on this problem? If not, I'll just wait for an ALSA update, probably on Packman.

unless you want to wait for an ASLA update and there isn't any guarentee that any near updates will include support for you'r card. The other option is buy some generic soundblaster card.

if you checked out the suse forum's you may get more helpfull answer's

that said have you tried the 32bit version although the differnces are minor... you never know just check a live CD or something http://iso.linuxquestions.org/version.php?version=420
