Hello to everybody,

I have a problem and am in need of assistance.
I have a hp ze5604 notebook one day it locked up so I went to restart it and as soon as i did so I lost all power indicators, no power on.

Currently there is no indicator lights on when AC power is connected, no beeping, no fans on, no power or charge lights on, I have tested the power brick and it is ok , battery too.

The question i have is does this machine have an internal power regulator and if so where on the board is it located?
I am fairly computer diag savvy and have disasembled the unit to look for any obvious shorts.

If anybody has any advise or info please let me know.

Some notebooks have a fuse built into the mobo, to protect against surges, and some short's see if there is one of them it would be located pretty near the power supply socket.

a tracer could have fried in which case there isnt much you can do as there wont be any eveidence to suggest that this has happend

have you tried pulling everything possible from the mobo i.e. HDD RAM VGA output to the monitor CPU (if possible) , and then see if anything happens then (should be some BIOS beeps)

if it froze mid session then there could be something up with the cpu but no lights suggest other wise.

One of my good buds had same issue after a lock up, he didnt wana replace the parts nessasary so he got in contact with the manufacturer(which was toshiba) and they did it for him at one of their certified repair centers, hope ur still on ur warrenty. If not i can tell you what they did to solve it, for his case they had replaced his CPU, RAM, and left the HDD alone. It worked after just replacing the CPU and RAM, reason they dont know which one caused the problem was because they ordered the parts and just put um in not checking for which caused it since the shop gets the parts free from manufacturer when they need them so what the heck why not just hurry up with it you know, at leaste thats how they see it. Technically i'd say try some test SoDimms and if they dont help u out its prolly the CPU. The mobo should'nt be fried from a lock-up, technically that wouldnt be an issue, the only 2 things that could of happend was the CPU froze or the RAM died and the CPU couldnt request from it at that point. This prolly shows that ur first bank fried and ur running in dual channel, ur pc cant request from the second slot since its wires can't be accessed through the first banks threads. Maybe the first slots RAM had fried alone and ur second stick may still be good...

Sorry for being such a in depth explainationist but hope this helps lol, take it ez.
