This problem has been occurring rather frequently and is now driving me nuts. Every now and then, and when I have about 5/6 tabs open in IE 7 (7.0.5730.11), IE either crashes or simply hangs.... Is there anything that I can do to permanently fix this problem. I have windows XP SP2 with all the latest updates till now.

Will be very very thankful if you can help me get out of this misery.
P.S.
Don't really want to, but should I dump IE and permanently shift to FireFox? I have hear that it is much better than IE:confused: Can someone, share the URL from where I can download the latest version of FireFox (just in case, I do get fed-up with IE and can not get this problem solved)

Hi there,

See if it occurs with any website or if there a specific website that when you have it opened makes this to happen.

Cheers,
Gabriel.

Hi Gabriel. Thanks for the reply. I disabled all the add-ins and IE has been behaving pretty ok. However I did end up installing Firefox and have to admit that I like it (though i've used it only for an hour or so). Was uses to certain things in IE but am sure will find a workaround/solution for the same in Fire Fox. However one thing that I do not like about FireFox is that if I have a bookmark and then I try to overwrite the same (i.e. add a bookmark in the same folder), I get no prompt and end up with 2 duplicates ...

Anyways.... appreciate your reply :)

Hi,

Without question, FireFox is far superior. I have hardly used Internet Explorer ever since I installed Fire Fox. Just 2 problems if I can get that sorted:

1) The bookmark problem

2) Where does Fire Fox keep the cookies etc if I want to clean up. I have a nice tool called Windows & IE washer and it does a great job in clearing the cache, delete all but selected cookies, history, and even the temporary files which IE used. I wish I could find something like that for FireFox

Thanks.

I had the same issue with IE so I switched to FF2. Now I just get crashes with sites that use QuickTime.

Have not run into the crash yet but is there any fix to that so far? BTW, have you ever faced problems (with FF2) with sites using Java script? Could have been something else maybe but I was unable to get the page to respond when I clicked a button and nothing happened but when I opened the same site in IE, all went fine

BTW, please do let me know if you can find a solution to the duplicate bookmarks (i.e. If I already have a bookmark in a folder and then I save a bok of exactly the same url in that folder again, I end up with 2 bookmarks; both with exactly the same name. I IE, it prompts if I wanted to overwrite.... really do miss this feature in FF)
