I've read in www.directron.com that one of the ways to reduce fan noise is to reduce the speed of the fan by lowering the voltage that supplies it. Since most fans run at 12V, the experts at www.directron.com suggested instead to supply the fan with 7V by connecting the red wire to the 12V and the black wire to the 5V. I tried it and it did work. However, I am cautious of what this type of change will affect the power supply and the over-all system. What can you advise?

Hi there,
Excellent tip. I never though about this before. Yes, this will work like a charm and won't cause any damage or trouble to your power supply or to our fan.
I'll probably update my tutorial on this subject posting this tip.
Another way to reduce the rotation even more is it to connect the fan to 5 V (red and black wires).
Cheers,
Gabriel
