I have 2 Toshiba Satellites purchased on the same date so I have the luxury of being able to switch out parts to see if I can figure out what is wrong. Yesterday one of the laptops stopped working correctly. When the power button is pressed, the fan comes on, a black screen, and every once in a while a glimpse of the Toshiba screen and then black. I have only gotten it to boot completely to Windows once when I switched out the harddrive and RAM with the other computer. Thinking it was the RAM, we switched the harddrives back and now even switching back I can't get past the black screen. I found something that suggested taking out the RAM and starting it to see if it beeps. I tried that and it did. I have also tried pushing the button on the DVD player and it will not open at any point while trying to boot. Somewhere else on here suggested holding in the FN key and the F5 key when booting to see if it had been switched to a different monitor. No luck on that either. :( PLEASE HELP

what does it do if you take the hard drive out(no hard drive in the laptop), and try to boot the laptop with the good laptop's RAM? and then see if you get the same results with the bad laptop's RAM
