I've read previous threads with similair problem, however my cooling fan doesnt spin when attempting to boot the laptop.
Everything else is the same, hdd works, cd-rom works, screen is fine.
Is it possible that the Fan is the only thing that is wrong with this laptop?
New motherboard with shipping is about $500, I dont think it's worth replacing without knowing that this is the issue.
Please help.

The laptop was taken apart and all individual components checked, motherboard was visually inspected, except the fan, then reassembled. This did not fix the problem. The article you referenced is for PCs, and if this was a PC I would have followed it by default. However, I find it problematic to clear laptop components with a toothbrush without a major step in which you have to take it all apart, during which I will probably end up completely destroying it.

In this case take it to an authorized maintence center...
