i have bought a computer and i have yet to get an operating system...
i play a lot of games, but i cannot afford a directx10 card yet, maybe in about 2 years, or less...
i have heard and seen that vista looks cool, but i was wondering whether to get it?
now, i have seen vista in a OEM kit, and it is only £55... why so cheap?:

it is x64, which i think is good, yet here is the XP OS i have seen:
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/119646
they are both for 1 PC, and the XP is more expensive.
i was also looking through, and i found vista and xp in retail edition, but they are 2x as expensive. any advise would be helpful, and also, my computer is powerful enough to support vista...
thanks

Hi,
In theory OEM copies are sold only to PC builders, so they could provide a new PC with a pre-installed OS for a very affordable price. The OS is exactly the same as the retail version, the only difference is that it doesn't come inside a box and also doesn't come with manuals nor any other literature.
Cheers,
Gabriel.

Vista is poor but microsoft will force you to upgrade in a year or so anyway, so its up to you personally I would buy a dirt cheap XP home edition OEM and then vista later on when you need it.

well, i have gone for a XP which is £60, and it has an upgrade coupon to vista premium, for only £8.00

yea, i plan on using the XP for my games, and once i want a direct x10 video card and more games are released for vista, i shall upgrade...
thanks
