In my opinion, the late release and low availability of the new ATI cards means they are getting desperate. I bet Nvidia is already working on its answer to the X1800XL, and will probably release it before Christmas. The good thing about the competition (no matter how...lacking...it is) is that, inevitably, the prices of the current high-end cards will drop dramatically, and become the new range of mid-level cards. I still havent figured out why ATI and Nvidia waste money on designing mid- and low-level cards, when in 6 months their best card on the market now will have had a price drop of $200-$300. Price wars are great!
