Default Burning Problems

I have a NEC DVD-RW ND-3550A and I've been trying to burn a DVD for quite some time now. My problem is more intermitten. Every program I use, it tells me I don't have a DVD in my drive, even though there is one. I've only gotten a blank dvd to be recognized once and there is no difference between the one that was recognized and all the others I've used. At first I thought it was a compatability issue with the software I was using, but multiple programs are telling me the same thing, that my drive is empty when its not. I know it can't be a reading problem because I use this drive all the time for music cds, movie dvds, games, etc. Can anyone help me with this?

I'm running windows xp and I'm using Sony DVD+R 4.7GB blank dvds. Let me know if there is any other information you might need to help me with my problem.

Azaghan,

This is a pretty common problem. The problem is usually with the burner not recognizing your media for some reason. You should try a different media to see if the problem is gone.

Cheers,
Gabriel.

Thank you Gabriel, I will try that. Do you have any suggestions on what I should get?

Try disks of different brands and colours.
On the data side disks can have different colour shines to them; typically green, blue or gold; and my experience (from the early CD burning era) is that once you find a disk that work, other disks of similar colour will also most probably work.

Cheers
