Default BE HAPPY and BE FAST, BUT CHECK IT!

I appreciate the article aimed at "Installing a Motherboard". It is informative and well-written. However, as an old computer tech, I would add a step that can prevent a lot of frustration and save time. I find that most people are HURRYING and ANXIOUS. They make mistakes through either oversight or lack of techniques or even due to faulty components. This can be helped by actually checking motherboard operation at several steps along the way. First immediately after mounting the mother board (MOBO from now on) on the plate, first put ONLY the processor, one (or if required a pair) of memory chips, and the video card (if not built in) on the MOBO and POWER IT UP.. verify that is is operational and looks ok. Then power down and procede to add in the various added boards and connectors. POWER IT UP again. Check for proper operation still. FINALLY mount the MOBO in the case, and do a PRELIMINARY neatening of cables and POWER IT UP again.. if all looks good procede to the final assembly and cleanup and finish your work. I find that I have lost MANY HOURS and LOTS OF FRUSTRATION in the hurrying of the job and not checking things out as I procede. These POWER UP CHECK steps take almost no time and can save a lot of trouble. Thanks again for a GOOD ARTICLE.

Just out of curiousity why do you ground the case? What does it do? EMI?
