Default How to install new hard disk in Vaio laptop

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-V505 laptop and a new 160GB hard disk. I intend to image my existing partitions onto an external drive then remove the old hrd dik and install the new one. how do i go about it? How do I physically remove/install the hardware and how do I get the partitions off the external drive onto the new disk?

Any help much appreciated.

Thx!!

Hi,

I plan to write a full tutorial on this, the tricky part is backing up your old data and restoring it. There are some software that may help you out, like Norton Ghost. I still to do this myself to see the roadblocks I might face to post detailed instructions. I will be doing this sometime soon.

Cheers,
Gabriel.

Norton ghost is the way to go, BUT I recomend reading the manual and understanding it before you really touch anything.
If you don't feel confident in doing it yourself it would be cheaper to just have it done at a repair shop.
Either way you have to spend some money buying a software licence OR to have it done at a repair shop.
The cheapo way to do it with no software is to save your IMPORTANT files to your external hdd or back up dvd etc...then do a system restore!
I recommend restoring a system every 12 months anyways!
