Question Need help in deciding the OS (XP or Vista / 32-bit or 64-bit)

Hi all,

I'll buy a new pc and not sure to use which OS. So i need help from hardwaresecrets community. I'll be really happy to recieve support. Thx

the PC i'm planning to buy:
Mobo: ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe WiFi AP / CPU: AMD Phenom 9600 / RAM: OCZ Reaper HPC Ed. (2x1 GB Kit) 1066 Mhz (crossfire certified, if i can find) - OCZ ReaperX (2x2 GB Kit) 800 Mhz (will be overclocked to ~1066 Mhz) (ReaperX is my second choice (if i get a 64-bit OS) / Graphics Card: ASUS HD3870 / Case: Cooler Master RC-690 (3*12 cm fans)(460W)

I'll use my PC for internet, day-to-day computing, gaming in general. Do you think XP or Vista would be better? (DX 10 and DX 10.1 sounds nice :P)
And secondly 32-bit or 64-bit?
(As i know i have to get 64-bit drivers, do you think will it be hard to find for that PC components (i think it'll be easy because they are very new) - and secondly; gaming (is very important for me) Will i be able to play games like Civilization 4 / SimCity 4 (the two most doubtful - in my mind) / Battlefield 2 / Company of Heroes / ...

So, i'm waiting for your help ASAP. Thanks to all of you, from now. ("in advance" is better maybe, right? - Sorry for my spelling - or any kind of mistakes)

Get a stronger power supply as well. That one won't put out enough juice.

For now I'd stick with just a 32-bit OS. As you already mentioned it can be harder to get 64-bit drivers and even then not everything may work correctly. If you want to have the flexibility for DirectX 10 then Vista would be necessary as XP does not support it.

Thx for your help ebackhus. It sounds possible enough for me to choose 32-bit OS for now.

Hi there,

Regarding the question about power supply, please open a new thread on our "Power" section.

As for the OS, I personally use and recommend Windows XP. I have Windows Vista installed on another computer and I find it too "heavy" and complicated to use without customization (e.g. the annoying message asking you to confirm everything you do).

Cheers,
Gabriel.

Hi,

I recommend that you should use XP for the meantime... But it's up to you if which OS you are comfortable in working with... You're the one who will use it, in-case that you could find difficulties in working with the OS that we recommend much better that you switch to the OS that you're comfortable...

Smile Thx + a question (PM reply pls)

Thx to everyone.

To: Gabriel Torres
Yes it would be annoying to use Vista, as i also heard about that issues from many ppl. I also have another question; about DX10. I'll use my computer from gaming in general. So would it worth using Vista for DX 10 or should I continue using Windows XP?
And should I use 32-bit or 64-bit OS?

And sorry for out-of-subject questions. You are right. I did that mistake twice. Sorry for that.

A question (it's a litte bit out-of-subject :P) SO PLS PM ME! Do NOT post comments to this thread. Question: Because of "errata" bug in Phenom processors' L3 cache (which is very important for them, as i know) i've first decided to wait for B3 revisions. But now, as i searched, Intel sounds much more better. Now i'm planning to buy Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 / ASUS 8800 GT and an appropriate ASUS mobo. Also RAM, HDD etc. Do you have any advice? (about E8400 / mobo / HDD / RAM ... anything you like.) PLS PM ME instead of posting a reply to this thread. Thank you very much from now.

Hi,

There are not so many DX10 games yet, I would upgrade to Vista only if your favorite game is DX10.

Regarding your other question. Amazing. You apologize for posting two question on the wrong thread and DID IT AGAIN! Please, in order to keep our forums organized and thus helping our visitors, always open a new thread on the appropriate forums. Please re-post your question above on the CPU forums.

Also we do not answer questions privately; this is not a free personal consulting service. You must post your questions at the open so all members of our community can read and reply and all other users can learn from them.

Cheers
Gabriel.

Unhappy

Thx for your help Gabriel Torres , you are right.

And about the question: Probably because i'm a newbie i couldn't find out where to post that question (because it contains many questions - CPU/mobo/RAM/... ) , so that's why that posts became out-of-topic. I thought requesting PM would be the solution, that's why i've told such a thing; not because i assume this forum as a free personal consulting service. I'm really sorry for my (kind of big) mistake . I will be much more careful after now.

Should i also delete the out-of-topic parts from my posts?

Thx.
