Thanks for reviewing this unit. While some might question the purpose of testing a very basic PS like this one, beyond catering to the budget minded PC builder, I feel it is worthwhile for several reasons. Reviewing units like this allows us to see the advantages and true worth of higher priced products. Expensive PS's are not simply status symbols, but have features like OVP, OCP, thermal protection, etc, that while are not usually tangible to us, can save the owner money and grief when the other components in our PC's are not ruined when the PS fails in some way. The exteme case of an under protected PS failure would be a fire that potentially could burn down a home or building and possible injure or kill the resident's. Imagine a PC in sleep mode while the owner is also in bed asleep, and the failure of the "insignificant" stand by power rail causes a fire. In the aftermath of such a fire, would it ever be known that it was the PC's PS that was the cause? I doubt it. Among other things, the price of expensive PS's is partly insurance against such an event, although we take that for granted. So this review is educational for us, in many ways.

good review. thank you,

i was pleseantly surprised. This unit is obviously lousy but at least it can do its rated wattage. Even though the non-heatsink rectifying bridge of that rating worries me a little!

parsec, that is exactly the way we think. Most media won't review low-end power supplies because manufacturers don't send them this kind of unit. For low-end units we have to buy them ourselves, which is not a problem (I consider this as an investment).
