Did you check what those slots in the fan shroud rally do?
From the shape of it I'm inclined to believe that air will be blown out through them rather than being sucked in. It's also possible that the air blown out there will cause turbulence and noise.

I had the same tought, Olle, due to centrifugal force. But apparently the air is really sucked on those slots.
