Default 8500 GT as 1024x768 gaming card?

I was wondering a few things: What is acceptable frame rates for most games at the resolution 1024x768? Also, at that resolution, has anyone tried the Geforce 8500 GT to play Medieval 2 Total War?

If anyone can help me out with those questions I'll greatly appreciate it.

Hi,

I think most people agree that anything below 60 FPS is hard to play.

Even though 8500 GT belongs to GeForce 8 series it is really a low-end video card. We don't recommend it. In our opinion the best cost/benefit ratio is with GeForce 8600 GT.

Cheers,
Gabriel.

Default Lightweight gamer seeks Bareminimum

Thanks so much Gabriel.

Okay this will seem redundant, but I'm not a big gamer, and only play games like Rome Total war, and Guild Wars; I also only play on 1024x768, but would like to play Medieval 2--could this cheap card possibly fit the bill?

I know this site pushes cards to the limit, and is for more hardcore gamers, so I appologize for taking up your time like this. It's just I do care about the price, and saving ninety dollars or so (Canadian) if I don't need to have that much video card power (8600GT) is a huge issue.

You have extensive knowledge in this field, and of course what you say is true about the 8600, I'm not that much of an idiot; however, I am in a money bind and not looking to go overboard.

Thanks so so much in advance for your reply. (I've bolded question so you don't have to read post entirely)

I wouldn't go as far as its hard to play at anything less than 60FPS, a ps3 football game (fifa 08 I think it was) is rated to play at exactly 30FPS,

you begin to notice juddering at roughly anything below 29FPS, so anything at 30FPS is good for playing, but yeh faster frame rates are alway's good.

Are any brands better than others and are there any brands to keep away from?

Hi,

Usually all known brands have the same quality and performance. Big names for nVidia products include XFX, eVGA and BFG, besides the motherboard manufacturers like MSI, Gigabyte and ASUS.

Cheers,
Gabriel.
