Default Genesis pc adapter doesn't work

Left and right seem to work, B and C buttons show 2 button presses in the panel. Up and down do not work, neither do start and A (3 button pad)

I have tried 5 different controllers, including an old master system controller, and all do the same thing. The adapter is dead on schematics

I followed these directions exactly, and tested my connections, and I get the exact same results as JennD.

For any future readers, get a program called PPJoy, when I installed that (instead of the direct pad, which didn't work for me) I was able to get everything working except up and down, sure it's not fully functional, but it's a step in the right direction. Plus PPJoy has many options and handles pretty much anything you plug into your parallel port.
