Default Customizing the BIOS Boot Logo

There has been a new article posted.

Title: Customizing the BIOS Boot Logo
URL: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/146

Here's a snippet:
Have you noticed that every time you turn PC on there is a green and yellow logo from EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), as shown in Figure 1? Did you know you can alter this logo, and replace it ...

Comments on this article are welcome.

Angry bios boot logo change

I've followed the step-by-step instructions as mentioned in http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/146/1 but the
only vissible result is that the original EPA logo has gone.
The newly designed logo has not been inserted...

What went wrong?

I don't know. Please explain further all the steps you've done.

Gabriel.

Question step-by-step

1. check for bios update (qhw1001.bin) & download
2. copied bios files to DOS 5.0 boot-disk
3. created new logo.epa with progs as mentioned
4. updated qhw1001.bin with new logo using cbrom124.exe
5. boot from fdd
6. at > i entered 'flash'(as per instructions came along with qhw1001.bin)
7. machine re-boot

Great: the EPA polluted logo did actually disappear but my verry own did not come into place.
Funny though, booting now is just like way back in the 80's
with _no_ logo whatsoever

Hum, I don't know, once this happened to me and had to do with the image specs required, specially that the image must be black and white:

136 pixels wide, 126 pixels high, 72 dpi and black and white mode (this mode is also called by other names, depending on the program, like B&W, 2 colors or 1 bit quality). Define black for the background color and white for pen drawing color. You must save it in bmp format (1 bit bitmap). The file must not be larger than 2,582 bytes.

Maybe is something there. Try making a very simple one to see what happens.
