Default DDR vs. GDDR Memories

There has been a new article posted.

Title: DDR vs. GDDR Memories
URL: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/168

Here's a snippet:
*
RAM memory is also used on video cards to make the video memory circuit. Until recently the video memory used the exact same technology as the system RAM memory that is installed on the motherboard...

Comments on this article are welcome.

In reference to the article Titled: DDR vs. GDDR Memories (by Gabriel Torres)
URL: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/168

This is a GREAT article on the difference between DDR vs. GDDR memories, and it has been referenced many times in various threads including the one here:

http://www.overclock.net/t/855871/wh...ks-of-ddr5-ram

It's also a top search result on Google (for DDR vs GDDR), but unfortunately, the article is EXTREMELY outdated (July 20, 2005) and it references DDR2 and DDR3 memory on graphics cards. (with no mention of DDR4, or GDDR5 and GDDR6).

Most graphics cards are now GDDR5, and DDR4 DRAM (system RAM) is now available. Could you please update your article (DDR vs GDDR Memories) to discuss the difference between GDDR5, GDDR6 and DDR3, and DDR4 SDRAM memory ?

Also can you create a new DDR4 Memory Tutorial, that explains the differences between DDR3 and DDR4 memories. (i.e. voltage, lower power consumption, less heat, high clock rates, etc.)

Also can you create a new GDDR5 and GDDR6 Tutorial, that explains the differences between DDR3, DDR4 memories as well as GDDR5 and GDDR6 graphics memories?

Everyone I have searched I've been unable to find an updated tutorial, and it seems that the only tutorial out there is the one you wrote, but it's extremely old and extremely outdated (discussing DDR2 and DDR3 RAM). DDR4 RAM is now being released, and it would be good to discuss the differences between DDR3 and DDR4 DRAM, as well as discuss the differences between GDDR5 and GDDR6 DRAM. (Voltages, clock rates, power consumption, less heat, higher clock rates, etc.)

Also can you please update the following articles as well:

"Understanding RAM Timings" by Gabriel Torres:

Please add/update information on the latest DDR4 memory.

Also can you please update the following articles as well:

"Everything You Need To Know About DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 Memories" by Gabriel Torres:
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/167

Please change the title to "Everything You Need To Know About DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 Memories" and also please add/update information on the latest DDR4 memory.

Hello TD Trader,

As a matter of fact, I was planning to update this tutorial. It was written many years ago and as you can see, it is very shallow, there are several other big differences between GDDR and DDR.

Thanks,
Gabriel.

Post DDR vs. GDDR Memories

Why do GPUs use 256bit Memory Interface Width to access 2gb of memory when you can do that with 32bit?
What is difference between DDR and GDDR memory interface?

Ps sorry for my english.
Best regards.

Despot,

The higher the number of bits you use, the higher the transfer rate is.

The bandwidth is calculated as:

number of bits x clock x number of bits per clock / 8
