Default Custom buildt PC won't turn on

I have some issues with booting my desktop. I suspected at first
that it wasnít detecting that I pressed the pwr sw, but after some testing,
I realize it may be deeper than that.
The only thing that seems to turn it on is randomly switching on and off
the PSU on the back of the case while simultaneously pressing the standby
button on top of the case. It never turns on when Iím only pressing the
standby button.

Hereís what Iíve tried:

1. Swapped the reset jumper onto the pwr sw pins, which should
technically work since itís just a jumper thatís shorted. Didnít work.
2. Opened the top of the case (CM HAF X). Everything checked out.
3. Directly shorted the pins on the motherboard. Did nothing.

I then thought that maybe the PSU was faulty, so I shorted PS_ON and
Ground on the main ATX power cable. PSU runs like an antelope.

Something else that happened, was that I tried pressing the MemOK button
next to the RAM. Then it suddenly worked, meaning I could turn it on by just pressing the standby button. I tried turning it on and off, just to check, and
lo and behold; it stopped working. I tried the MemOK button, and nothing

If it helps, here are my system specs

12 gb DDR3 Corsair Dominator RAM
1x 2TB WD Caviar HDD
1x 90GB Corsair SSD Force 3
(I am going to change that for a Samsung EVO 120GB,
seeing I have had some problems with BSODs with the SandForce
controller on the SSD)
Intelcore i7-960 CPU
Corsair AX850 PSU
ASUS Radeon 6950 HD 2GB GPU

And the motherboard:
ASUS P6X58D-Premium.

The build is two years old. I really hope someone knows the answer to this one.

Try it with a different PSU. If it's not that, then it's your motherboard.
No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the coils backwards!

Main PC: Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz, Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP, 8GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600, 240GB Intel 335 Series SSD, 750GB WD HDD, Sony Optiarc DVD RW, Palit nVidia GTX660 Ti, CoolerMaster N200 Case, Delta DPS-600MB 600W PSU, Hauppauge TV Tuner, Windows 7 Home Premium.
