Default If fake wattages and 80+ badges aren't bad enough...

We now have Fake Passive PFC. The unit in question here is a GMX SmartQC rated at 550W. I asked for about 320W on my load tester and it exploded.

I've heard of it before, but this is the first time I've actually seen it for myself. The power meter gives it away, since the power factor was too low for a unit with PPFC.

I almost laughed my head off when I took it apart. To make it feel heavy enough to be a PFC coil, they used a few iron slabs, but that greenish one is actually part of a floor tile!

I linked this thread on Clube do Hardware (Gabriel's Brazilian website), and also I found this "Obama" power supply (no kidding, this is its real name):

I wonder what the poor worker says when he goes home to his family.

Wife: "How was work today?"

Worker: "Didn't go so well. We ran out of iron slabs to stick in the powersupplies, so I started cutting up the floor tile to meet quota."

Sorry, but i disagree. People tends to view "made in china" as something cheap or worthless, the worst, etc... the truth is what makes something good and with quality is what manufacturers tells to a china factory what to do.

Manufacturers are who put much or less money to the quality components and manpower.

I don't see why something made in china can't be good enough as something made in spain or usa. It's just how much money was invested on the
manufacturing, not the country of manufacturing.

Sorry if my english was bad :P

That is not what I was saying. Yes I know I said cheap China made junk, But I also know not everything in china is made cheap. My corsair psu is a good product and it is made in China. What my point was, Is because people in America failed to buy local or buy made in America, Factories in America lost money and shipped manufacturing overseas or went belly up, And this is why we do not have very many well made products to choose from anymore. Competition is also low.
