Default Can the video drivers interrupt the CPU?

Hi all... I make this question because I have a problem understanding the way the communication between the cpu and the vc works...

I have an scenario:

1. The user changes the background color

Now how does the computer operate on that scenario:

As far as I understand, in order for the graphics card to change the pixels, the cpu has to be interrupted and told to "call the graphics card and tell it: 'hey you, change the background to this'..."

But who interrupts the CPU at the time you click "change background"?

Is it the video driver? I don't think the videocard does the interruption since it doesn't yet know the background has to be changed...

Can someone explain this to me?

Who changes the background color is the video card, not the CPU. The user will tell the CPU to change the background color, the CPU will send this information to the video card. As far as I know, there is no interruption involved.

I was thinking the same... but there has to be some sort of interruption in order for the processor to stop doing what its doing right now and communicate with the video card, then keep working, and be interrupted again by the video card when it has finished changing the background colour...
