Default FX 8350 Vs. i5 3570K

So, I want to buy a new PC. Of course I need a CPU.

Which one should I go with - the AMD FX 8350 "Piledriver" or the Intel i5 3570K?

When I first started looking into the different parts I'll need, I wanted to go AMD. But a friend of me said AMD CPU's were down-right ****ty and that I should go Intel.

I am now very confused as to which one is better.
I will probably overclock it a bit, I do play 3D games, I do render photos and video, I stream, over at Twitch TV and I surf the web. A lot.

Please leave your thoughts and recommendations and hopefully I can get some clarification

Question Close!

Generally, the FX 8350 is better suited to applications, but the i5 3570k is better suited for gaming.

FX 8350 is slightly cheaper than the i5 3570k to purchase. However, the FX 8350 consumes more power than the i5 3570k, and is therefore more expensive (electricity cost) to run.

i5 3570k has more overclocking potential than the FX 8350.

Tend to favor the i5 3570k as it takes less power and runs a bit cooler.

That is not correct. Have you read reviews comparing the two? The Core i5-3570 is fastest than the FX 8350 in ANY kind of application. It makes no sense to buy the FX-8350. Read it here:

Depending on what applications are run, and whether they are run as single thread or multi thread, will affect the performance of the FX-8350.

Let me rephrase. Generally, the FX-8350 is better suited to running multi-threaded applications.

According to reviews here, here, here and here, the FX-8350 did a bit better running (some) applications compared to the i5-3570k at stock CPU speeds (4 GHz for FX-8350 and 3.4 Ghz for i5-3570k).

Totally wrong.

3570K is only faster (a tiny bit) in games and low threaded apps while being much more expensive.

FX-8350 is as fast in games, and brings a bigger performance in apps that actually matter (encoding, rendering, img editing) not useless benchmarks.

If you want a cpu only for gaming and have a bit less multithread perf. the FX-6300 is the cpu to buy, equals FX-83** gaming potential.

I don't like reviews, it's better to read posts from people that use the system on a daily basis. For example, check newegg comments on the product.

That "any" do not favor your argument.

To the OP:
SteamyTiger
Get the FX-8320, best bang for buck right now for gaming/streaming, nothing beats it (you would need to go after the 2700/3770K to achive similar results.

More cores --> heavier encoding options, meaning more quality at the same bitrate (x264 medium settings on Open Broadcaster Software instead of veryfast/fast).

More cores --> switch between heavy duty apps like butter.

Sure, using obsolete apps like cinebench10, 18dollars in a year, saved, wow... i swear you waste more energy in a overcharged smartphone or like 10x more using a hair dryer.

If you just want to game, FX-6300 (offers pretty much same performance as the 8 cores). Gaming+Streaming, FX-8300's.
